HasrBook Presentation

HarsBook was one of  the main tasks of the HarsNet team and published in paper bay DechemaHarsBook was written by a broad team of the HarsNet partners on behalf of the whole group. Its purpose is to summarise some of the usual stages in assessing exothermic reaction hazards and to describe the types of equipment and procedures that are commercially available for use in this context.

IT'S IMPORTANT. DON'T MISS IT !!! It will be fully available in the next posts.

Thermal Analysis, Calorimetry

Hi, this is a new blog on Thermal Analysis, Calorimetry inside our blog on Thermal Safety of Chemical Processes.

Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry have been central techniques along all our proffessional life - of Rosa and me -. Due to them, at the very beginning of our proffessional lifes we promoted HarsNet and S2S, two relevant European networks and we found excellent friends around Europe, USA and other exotic countries. One of our last strong professional challenges was investigating the causes of the accident at IQOXE, Tarragona 2020. Thermal Analysis gave the solution to all enigmas.

You're welcome. We'll share here information here on our research developments, such as NPK - Non-Parametric Kinetics - and on GECAT (Grupo Especializado de Análisis Térmico y Calirimería de las reales sociedades españolas de Química y de Física).

 The HarsNet team

You can find in the picture (2001) most of the reference European experts in process safety of that moment, such as S. Waldram, M. Bartra, M.A. Alòs, J. Steinbach, J. Sempere, K. Dixon-Jackson, A. Lunghi, F. Gallice, T. Snee, K.-P. Zeyer,  J. Carrera, H.U. Moritz, P. Cardillo,  B. Maschio, A.H. Mebarek, S. Walter, M. Ochsenkühn-Petropoulu, and much other rellevant people. The scene is presided by Prof. Dr. Roel Westerterp, one of the main figures in this subject.

However, the coordinator of the project, Prof. Dr. Rosa Nomen is lacking, perhaps doing the photo. Here you have her picture:

HarsNet was the “Thematic Network on Hazard Assessment of Highly Reactive Systems" with its focus on batch and semi-batch reactors. It was a four-year European Community programme that started in September 1998 and initially involved 31 partners. Subsequently additional guest partners have joined HarsNet. One of its main purposes was to make available to Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) the best available advice for assessing and controlling the hazards of exothermic reactions. The HarsNet Thematic network was the European Community Project BET2-0572 funded in part by contract number BRRT-CT98-5066 (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/BRRT970041/results/es).

The results of HarsNet involved six areas: HarsMeth, HarsBase, HarsSMEs HarsWeb, HarsEdu, and HarsBook. The main objectives of introducing HarsNet are to share HarsMeth and HarsBook with all proffessionals involved in Chemical Process Safety.
